About NNME

Building the Talent Behind the Microelectronics Industry

The National Network for Microelectronics Education (NNME) is the United States’ coordinated national effort to build the workforce powering the semiconductor industry.

As investment accelerates across design, manufacturing, and advanced technologies, talent has become the defining constraint. NNME exists to solve that challenge at scale by aligning industry demand with education and workforce systems through a unified, national approach.

Our Mission

To equip all Americans with employer-aligned curriculum and hands-on learning that lead to microelectronics careers—advancing U.S. innovation, competitiveness, and prosperity.

Our Vision

A unified, adaptable national talent ecosystem where
education, industry, and opportunity move in lockstep to meet the
evolving needs of the semiconductor sector.

A National System, Designed for Impact

NNME operates as a coordinated network that brings together employers, educators, workforce organizations, and policymakers to deliver consistent, high-quality pathways into semiconductor careers.

Through nationally aligned strategy and regionally activated delivery, NNME replaces fragmented pathways with a system designed for scale, access, and measurable outcomes.

The Role of the SEMI Foundation

The SEMI Foundation serves as the Hub Operator for NNME. In this role, the Foundation provides the structure, coordination, and shared infrastructure that enable the network to function as a cohesive national system. It ensures that Regional Nodes are not operating in isolation, but as part of a unified strategy aligned to industry demand.

As Hub Operator, the SEMI Foundation:

With this foundation in place, Regional Nodes are able to:

  • Guides and connects Regional Nodes across the country
  • Establishes shared standards, tools, and systems for execution
  • Ensures alignment between education, training, and employer needs
  • Supports consistent measurement of outcomes across the network
  • Launch and operate with clarity and confidence
  • Build and validate high-quality, industry-aligned training programs
  • Boost industry awareness
  • Track meaningful outcomes, including learner readiness, job placement, career progression, and employer satisfaction

These benchmarks define NNME’s gold-standard approach to workforce development.

A Public-Private Partnership at National Scale

NNME is supported through a strategic partnership with the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC), enabled by the CHIPS and Science Act.

Together, this collaboration brings federal investment, industry leadership, and workforce expertise into alignment to address one of the most critical challenges facing the U.S. economy.

  • \
NSF provides leadership in advancing education, research, and workforce innovation
  • \
DOC drives national priorities around economic competitiveness, manufacturing, and supply chain resilience
  • \
NNME, through the SEMI Foundation, translates these priorities into a functioning workforce system connected directly to industry demand

Regional Nodes: Where the Work Happens

NNME’s impact is delivered through Regional Nodes across the country. Each Node activates the network at the local level, bringing together employers, education providers, and workforce organizations to align training with real jobs, expand access to opportunity, and build sustainable talent pipelines.

While each region reflects local strengths and industry needs, all Nodes operate within a shared national framework—ensuring consistency, quality, and scale.

Building What Comes Next

The future of microelectronics depends on a workforce that is prepared, adaptable, and connected to opportunity. NNME is building that workforce—through alignment, coordination, and execution at a national scale.
